6 Tips to Help Your Baby Learn to Crawl
There are certain milestones that parents are eagerly waiting for their baby to achieve. Certain milestones like rolling over and saying their first words are actually quite nice, but there are some parents that want to see their babies crawl for the first time.
True enough, when babies start to crawl, it is actually a prelude to them starting to stand and walk on their own. Babies typically start rolling over in the 3-5-month mark. However, they are quite different when it comes to crawling. There are some that would start crawling much earlier like 6-7 months in, but there are some that would take a longer time. No matter what, they will start to crawl eventually, so you may have to wait for that to happen.
However, when your baby starts to go to the prone position and they start to go all-fours, then that is a good sign because they are priming themselves to crawl. Parents should let their babies wear onesies or other protective baby clothes to help them crawl. In this article, I will go over some more tips.
1.Strengthen Their Tummy
If you want your baby to start crawling at a relatively early age, you need to start giving the more tummy time early on. This is basically putting your baby in an orientation where they are on their tummies when they’re supporting their bodies.
Now, why is this helpful? That is because if you give them a lot of tummy time, you are allowing them to develop the muscles necessary for them to crawl. This includes not only their tummy muscles, but also their legs, arms, back, and neck.
2.Make Them Play with Their Hands Elevated
Your baby’s arms can help support them whenever they will crawl in the future, so encourage them to put their hands up slightly to help them build those muscles.
You can either put a stuffed animal or a pillow to rest their hands (thus making it elevate a little bit) or you can even help them put their hands on furniture or tall toys. Just make sure that you always supervise them whenever they do so.
3.Lift Them Up
Parents who typically lift their babies up would be happy to know that that activity can actually prime them to crawl. When lifting your baby, hold them by the arm or armpits and allow them to stand up just slightly that their feet do not leave the ground. Doing this will help strengthen their legs.
4.Put Something in Front of Them
Babies are quite curious beings and they always want to investigate the things that are present in their surroundings. That being said, encourage them to crawl by putting something that may catch their attention. It could be a brand new toy or something colorful that they want to grasp eagerly.
5.Do Not Use Supportive Devices
One of the reasons why some babies crawl much earlier than others is probably due to the fact that their parents typically use supportive devices such as baby walkers, high chairs, strollers, and so on.
Using such things would not only hamper their muscle development, but it will also allow them to relax- something that you do not want to do if you want them to crawl much earlier than others.
6.Give Them Time
Now, all of the things above can be done for some time, but if your baby starts to get agitated and cry incessantly, then there is no harm in stopping the activity. Just make sure that you’re always there to support them.
